Base-Game Small Critter Happiness

The past couple of weeks have been Incredibly Enlightening to me. Before then, I had only ever seen two videos on YouTube of my CC, one that featured my Sixam Plants, and one that had a piece of CAS CC used while making a Sim. The former was very Cool to see and hear the Happiness that the plants brought to the creator, and the second was Important for me to see, as it was of a pair of horns that I had enabled for both males & females, but had neglected to generate proper thumbnails for the female version, so the thumbnails were blank. Yikes!

Over the past couple of weeks, I have seen around a dozen of more videos, half of which were almost exclusively about my critter releases. I am very humbled by hearing how much Happiness that I had brought to the creators of the videos, and at the same time it allowed me to see through eyes that weren’t *mine* how different people interact with my objects, and where I had not necessarily failed with what I had created, but where I needed to pay closer attention to detail with ensuring that everything was properly tuned and how the object(s) presented themselves. I am So Very Grateful to Everyone who took the time to show off to the world what I had created, even while the items were being used to show how things *could* have possibly been done by the official team with a SP, instead of what was done.

Reading through the comments, ALL of which were so wonderful to read and see the excitement that I had been able to give to so many, I also discovered that many people do not have the packs which, to me, I consider ‘essential’ to have along with the Base Game. Seeing that caused me to re-think the whole project, and work to bring the same amount of Happy to Everyone, regardless of whether that had Outdoor Retreat or Get to Work. Soooo, here is what I have come up with as a ‘solution’ to that… As well, I have updated all of the other files to have proper tuning (no more ‘light’ on a branch that has no light), as well as adding additional colors to the items, as not everyone is like me and uses mostly white, grey and black furnishings… o_0 The only two items that I didn’t update are the Alien Pet Habitat, as my BGC solution wasn’t working out as intended, and the aquarium, which I still am considering what to do with. I saw that my instructions & description weren’t clear enough, and not everyone could figure out the need to sell & re-purchase it if one wanted a different combination of fish with maybe a different color of tank.

  • The new parrot solution is a clone of the BG wedding arch, minus the wedding bit, made 50% thinner with the arch so that the feet could grasp it properly, and I made the extra effort to add a black variation as well as combining all of the flower colors with all of the woods, for Maximum choice (20 swatches each, one file for red & one for blue parrots) as I mentioned above, the original branch perches have had the lighting option removed from them, simply replace the file without losing the item if already placed
  • For the Iguana & spider tanks, I cloned the BG reward Freeze Ray, and added 5 additional swatches of color to the original 10, for a total of 15 each. I updated the original releases with the new swatches, in case you want to re-download then for the new color choices…
  • I added five new color choices to the original 11 of the toucan perch, as well. As with all of the other updated files, same link, same file to overwrite and lose nothing if already used
  • Lastly, to the Alien Habitat… After uploading and posting the file, I saw that the screenshots weren’t entirely representative of what the habitat was, if one didn’t read all of the description. While I was unsuccessful at making a BGC version of the habitat, what I did do was to make little ‚beds’ for the critters, made from the Alien bassinet from EP01, but made for Base Game. Seven choices of color, each has three small slots on the bedding, so that one can get ‚just the right placement’ of the pets, as the each have slightly different placements. The habitat has been updated, though, with a proper 2×2 footprint…

Regarding the topic of the SP, my first release of the parrots on the branches and the iguana in the tank actually were released a day BEFORE the announcement itself of the latest SP, which came as quite a surprise to us all! I said that I would say NOTHING about that whole affair, but I have since changed my mind, as there are two things that stick out to me in particular about it that do not settle well with me in the least. One, I do truly believe that it was content that was with held from the C & D pack, as the ’new’ pet doors actually use animations that are embedded within EP04, even though we got no such items in that pack. Secondly, and this is what is the lemon juice squeezed over the wound, is that with the release of this latest SP, they discounted C & D 50% at the same time as a ’sale’. Meaning, that if they weren’t so assured that we as a whole aren’t so ‚addicted’ to shoving our money over to them as soon as possible, one could get BOTH C & D as well as the missing/withheld items for $10 LESS than the EP itself cost. All said, moving on…

I think that’ll do as the full animation draft. That clocks in at around 33 seconds.

There’s a lot of work still to do, but this provides a nice basic framework for everything else to slot nicely onto.

There is going to be a bit of a giggle in there at around 25 seconds in. Just need to make sure the rigs got back to the beginning of the loop again before I started getting too overwhelmed by giggling.

There will be another preview just above this one in my feed once I upload it, which, internet permitting, should be in a few seconds.

A Community Pack

As a Community we came together and created some amazing content for free for everyone to use. 

At last count this set includes 10 new meshes which is probably more than the Official Pack as well as numerous recolors, Some by simmers who have never thought of creating CC before, which is super inspiring !
